Founded in 1765, we are believed to be the UK’s oldest company involved in the manufacture of horse care products. Having held a Royal Warrant since the reign of King George IV, we still hold it to this day for the supply of quality saddlery care products to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Do you remember?
To celebrate our 250th anniversary we are asking Carr & Day & Martin fans of all ages; do you remember? Watch our nostalgic video and be transported back to the first time you lovingly applied Vanner & Prest Hoof Oil or shined your tack up with our Glycerine Conditioning Soap.
In the beginning…
The first product manufactured by Day & Martin (as we were originally known in 1765) was a boot blacking to polish leather boots, with the first shop opening a few years later in London in 1770.
Mr Day had a flair for publicity and owned splendid black horses that were used to draw the company carriages, as they delivered the products throughout London. Apart from the horses themselves, the firm had wonderful stables and equipment and used to win many prizes at local shows and events. An interest in equestrian products thus ensued and this led to the creation of our world famous Belvoir Bar Soap. Still made to the original formula, it remains the most popular glycerine bar soap on the market to this day, recently winning the Horse & Rider ‘Best in Test’ award 2014. Quite an achievement, it goes to show that quality really does stand the test of time.
Moving with the times
Throughout the 1900’s the company continued to grow and develop new products many of which remain in our range to this day. The company also acquired a number of popular and well established brands along the way, such as Vanner & Prest Hoof Oil and Neatsfoot Oil.
In September 2006, the company was acquired by the Tangerine Group of companies, a family business based in Lytham, Lancashire. All Carr & Day & Martin products are now produced at our own manufacturing site in Lytham and all to the same high standard set respectively by Messrs Carr & Day & Martin.
Steeped in history, the comprehensive range now encompasses four distinct care categories: Leather, Coat, Hoof and Health Care, providing a ‘one-stop shop’ for our loyal followers and the discerning horse owner.
Product innovation and efficacy is what sets us apart and is why over the last two centuries we have remained a trusted supplier at the forefront of the horse care industry.
Introduced late 2013, the MF Pro kit is the ultimate 3 step system designed to cleanse, relieve and protect vulnerable heels and legs. The ideal solution to wet and muddy conditions, this advanced system tackles a traditionally common issue in a technically progressive way.
The latest innovation from Carr & Day & Martin is Equimist 360, a revolutionary new spray technology.
