Managing Hooves in Intense Conditions

Domestic horses often spend unavoidably long periods stabled or in muddy wet fields both of which have a detrimental effect on the hoof capsule.

Bedding materials such as shavings, paper and hemp prevent the free flow of air around the hoof capsule. In addition these materials are of an absorbent nature and some bedding will unavoidably become contaminated with urine.

The bacteria present in bedding converts this urine into urea and ammonia, which dissolve the natural fats and oils that protect the hoof horn capsule, causing the structures to soften and weaken.

The problem is exacerbated by wet, muddy fields – unavoidable, particularly during the winter months.

Cornucrescine Tea Tree Hoof Oil is a rich, translucent oil, for use on the whole hoof structure and excellent for stripy or mixed coloured hooves. The unique formulation is ideal for the daily maintenance of all types of hooves. Tea Tree Oil is renowned for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and if used daily will therefore help prevent bacterial infection, maintain and improve hoof health as well as leaving a long lasting shine.
